Using my iPhone to get my dodgeball checkins into Twitter and Facebook

Date January 30, 2008 by alex

Once Apple added the ability to send text messages to multiple recipients I thought I’d finally be able to have my dodgeball checkins be reflected as my status in Twitter, and in turn, Facebook (via the Facebook Twitter app). I’ve always appreciated the location information inherent to dodgeball messages and longed for that utility in the other status apps that followed.

The problem was a result of Twitter co-opting the main dodgeball syntax by using the @ symbol indicate a user’s profile rather than a user’s geographical location so Twitter would always incorrectly interpret the messages. Today I tried sending my check to dodgeball in the following manner and it seemed to work out:

@ Lure! Happy restaurant week!

The space in between the @ and the venue name seems to allow all three services to work the way they should. Hooray!
