An idea that Nuti and I had years ago
January 20, 2008 by alex
Idea: Live-streaming audio of sarcastic, cynical duo doing their own commentary for major sporting events. Mute TV, play stream instead.
- John Gruber via Twitter
John Gruber of Daring Fireball echoes an idea that Nuti and I have been bandying about since we first moved to the city after college (circa 1998). Now that bandwidth is finally catching up, ideally eliminating the lag that would undermine such an effort, this is becoming a reality. Sadly, it seems like such a no-brainer that I assume someone must be doing this already.

The case for an online stream is far more intriguing as I’m sure it would attract an extensive range of quirks and cynics, but Sky Sports in England has tapped into this idea by offering fan commentary accessible through the SAP button during live soccer matches. It can usually be pretty amusing, especially when pairing one of the giants of English soccer, say Arsenal, with one of its minnows, say Wigan.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find funnier examples, but the reaction of the dejected fan after his team has been scored on is great.

I don’t know if it’s exactly what you had in mind, but we just saw a presentation by Flix Wagon that’s letting you do streaming video via your cell phone. Check them out at http://www.flixwagon.com/
