Looking Back: 2007 Resolutions

Just like Lauren from the Hills. No, I don’t watch that show!
Happy 2008 dear readers! I hope you had a fun New Years Eve and a wonderful 2007. I am excited for 2008. It might sound nuts, but I really like even years. And I like to start new projects, which is what new year resolutions are great for. However, before I can start thinking about new stuff, it’s time to check out the progress from my 2007 goals. Here goes:
Read two books each month
While I have heard of people reading a book a week for a year, I am not sure I could keep up with that schedule. Two books a month seemed a bit more attainable. If you have suggestions for great books, please send them my way!
Er. So far, not so good. 24 in 12 turned out to be more like 12 in 12. I lasted about two months before everything fell apart.
Run five races in 2007
I plan on running the NYC marathon this year, and think a few races before hand would help me stay on track leading up to the marathon. Alex and I are thinking of running the Broad Street 10 miler in Philly on May 6th. Anyone want to join us?
Gosh. This is embarrassing. I ran two races in 2007. Need for Speed and the NYC Marathon. The marathon is practically like running eight races though so shouldn’t that count for something?
Finish my portfolio site
I have owned www.superkb.com for three years now and all that one can find there is a list of my grad school classes and email address. I have started quite a few design variations of the site over the years, but have a hard time committing to the design to fully build it.
Oh thank god! I wrapped this up just under the wire. Vacation is great for actually getting side projects done. superkb.com went through about three designs and two half developed sites before I finally settled into this work-in-progress. It still needs some design and content tweaks, but it’s live for the masses.
Learn….
-to sew. I got a sewing machine for Christmas this year from my brother and Chieko, so now I just need to learn how to use it. Perhaps I should start with the pants I have been wearing with a duct tape hem? Maybe another resolution is to be less ghetto?
-to code in XML and CSS better. It would just make dealing with work a lot more interesting.
-to speak French ( I would add “better” given that I took years of French in H.S. but all I can say is “Do you want the butter?” or “Where is my mother?” so I suppose that doesn’t count as “knowing” French). Alex aide!?
- the settings of the digital SLR better. Aperture, Schmaperture has always been my attitude and I think it is time I sit down and get to to know the settings.
Sewing = check! Thanks, Lindsey. Though I haven’t done much since that first bag I made.
XML + CSS = check! Thanks, Herbert and Alex. Things are moving a lot faster now.
French = Um. Bonjour?
Digital SLR settings = Eh, not so much, though I am working on it more these days.
A resolution I didn’t post here that I mostly kept with some minor exceptions was to take the stairs at work and not the elevator. This has less to do with the health benefits and more to do with the fact that I am afraid that the elevator built in the late 1800s isn’t up to code. I suppose we’ll call that resolution “indulging my anxiety.”
Stay tuned for my 2008 resolutions! One goal might be to make my resolutions more attainable :).
