Making whole wheat pasta… from scratch

Date December 10, 2007 by alex

Last week, Karen and I decided to try our hand at making some fresh whole wheat pasta and sauce. Here’s a quick recap…

TOAD: Dec. 3rd, 2007

Karen is ready to go.

Olive oil

Starting with the dough and the oil.

Working it in

Karen gets to mixing it up.

Karen works the dough

And working it.

The homemade sauce with fresh hot turkey sausage from the farmer's market

Meanwhile the sauce gets going.

Here comes the sausage

And the sausage gets sizzling (and is ultimately added to the sauce)

Rolling

I roll out the dough.

Making elephant ears

And make an elephant face.

Fettucinizing it

Now the magic happens.

Making sure it feeds through properly

Watch out now!

Heat up with a little sauce (learned this one from the Sopranos)

After the past is done I like to throw it back in the pot with some sauce on a low flame to give the pasta some flavor. (I learned this from Joe Pantoliano when he was on the Sopranos a few years ago)

Finished!

Behold the final product. For the record, this pasta was DELICIOUS. I highly recommend you giving it a shot if pasta’s your thing.
