Homemade Ice Cream Project

Date August 8, 2007 by karen

Last week I picked up a kitchen-aid ice cream maker attachment and a highly recommended ice cream recipe book, the Perfect Scoop. with big plans to make homemade ice cream all the time for the rest of the summer. I carried the giant kitchen-aid attachment home one night after work and pulled it out of the box, all excited like a kid on Christmas morning ready to play with the new toy, only to learn that the attachment needed to freeze for 15+ hours. Bah.

The next day I came back to the frozen bowl with ingredients for chocolate-peanut butter ice cream and whipped up a batch with relative ease.

Whipping half and half , chocolate and sugar on the stove.

Pouring the cooled chocolate mixture into the mixer.

Spin ice cream! SPIN!

And ended with a few scoops of some very rich, sweet ice cream. So rich and sweet in fact that immediately after finishing the cup of ice cream, I went to bed with a sugar headache. While the consistency was impressive for homemade ice cream, I fear this “perfect” ice cream book may be filled with tooth-aching recipes. I am going to keep working out the recipe situation—maybe coffee frozen yogurt next time. I think I might need an espresso maker for that…

Some are definitely too sweet. Anything with caramel is for sure. The coffee ones are pretty good, as is the Milk Chocolate Guiness.

Try the sorbets…they’re lighter, tangier and more refreshing than the custard ice creams :)
