Where’s Team Kane Street?
July 21, 2007 by karen
Hi! You may have wondered where we went this past month considering we haven’t posted almost at all except for a few photos here and there, but we didn’t go anywhere. We’ve been busy in Brooklyn for the last several weeks and didn’t realize how shamefully we were ignoring the blog until Alex’s Mom asked why there haven’t been any updates lately. At least we know if you aren’t reading the blog, our Moms are.
So what have we been busy with in the last month or so? Lots of stuff…
First, we bought and apartment! In Park Slope, Brooklyn! Yay! We weren’t even really looking, but I had set up the NYT realestate RSS reader to alert me when Brooklyn garden apartments came on the market. A great one showed up with a basement! and a big garden! and a working fireplace! and the next thing we knew we had made and offer and were soon closing on the apartment and moved in two months from the day we first saw it. Lots of stuff needed to happen in between to make the closing happen that took up a lot of time, like getting approved for a mortgage, hiring a lawyer, signing a contract, passing the board interview, finding an inspector, breaking the lease at our old apartment, showing the old apartment to potential new tenants, and then finally closing in early July. We moved last week and are now in our new home. It’s wonderful. We’ll post some photos very soon.

Alex somehow was elected treasurer of our coop just by being able to count. He didn’t even need to campaign. Had I known they were electing new officers, I would have put up a fight with a few campaign signs: “Bonna Makes you Wanna…Pay your Bills!” Maybe next year.
Second, we’ve been busy training for the marathon. It’s been going well so far, though we still haven’t had any super long runs yet. 104 days until the big day…
Dennis turned 31 and had a fun little (ok, so there were more people at his birthday party than we had at our wedding) impromptu party over at Heather’s, after forgetting to confirm his hip hop dance party at Professor Thom’s.
Daya and Dens at his birthday party. This was maybe 8:30 p.m….
Danny turned 27 and had a super fun party over at Flatbush Barn, our new local favorite. I highly recommend the “Mo Stomy” drink they serve. The evening ended with a visit to the Old Carriage Inn in Park Slope. I recommend only visiting that place once a year because it usually ends with something like this:
Check out the “Don’t Stop Believing” hand on the left. Also, check out the enthusiastic dj. That’s what we call bringing down the house.
Manlio came to town for a few nights too. Thanks for visiting, Manlio! We actually got to see him a good number of times during his stay. It turns out Manlio is very good at scheduling his visits with his friends.
We bought iPhones! We’re suckers. We weren’t going to cave, but when we woke up on the 30th and they still had some in stock at the Soho store, we called Kevin, our enabler, at 10 a.m. and high tailed it to Manhattan to “play with them.” All it took was “Slide to open” and Alex was in line to buy one. We walked out with three phones at 10:08 a.m.
We had another great Grill Free or Die on the 4th of July. This year marked our third edition and the guests really pumped up the freedom this year with their themed desserts. Check out these fine entries.
Sara’s winning Freedom Krispies.
And finally, El Destructo finished their season 8-2 last week, making this year their best season to date. They have a pretty great team this year, with some new additions, but will soon be losing two star players: Mark and Andy, as they are both moving to Indiana for unrelated reasons.
Bill at bat.
I suppose we have also been super busy at work recently, but who wants to read about that? Not even me.
