Half Reads?

Some of you may remember that I started this little project called 24 in 12 back in January in which I promised to read two books every month. And as pathetic as this project is (who can’t read two books a month?!) some of you may have noticed I haven’t really been keeping up with this goal. This is true. However, not as badly as you may have thought. I have been reading books, I just haven’t been writing about them because frankly, book reviews are boring as I learned three reviews into this project. Also, I don’t really know how to write them, so now I just keep a list.
I did miss a few books between Austin and now, but I have been back on track recently (read a book about marathon training!) and also started Chuck Palahnuik’s new book, Rant, which Alex so nicely surprised me with because he knows I really like Chuck. Or did. Which brings me to the real point of this post.
I’ve found I don’t really like Chuck Palahnuik’s books anymore. I was a huge fan of Survivor and Invisible Monsters, and a normal fan of some of his books after these, like Choke, but his last few books have been unbearable to read. I have a real issue with starting a book and not finishing it, and actually very rarely do this, but I don’t think I can finish Rant. I feel dirtier for having read it so far and I am only half way through. When riding the subway in the morning, I am afraid some bored passenger is going to look over my shoulder and see that I am reading this filthy, filthy book, but on the other hand, I feel guilty not finishing it.
What do you think, should I go on, or cut Chuck loose?

a tough call…I too have suffered through a number of books I really hated, because I felt like I just had to see if they’d get better. The one I’m going through now actually has improved - biography of Katherine Graham - but, if you feel assaulted by this book, you should probably stop.
