Rock and Roll L Train

TOAD: June 1st, 2007: On Friday, Karen and I hit up The Elephant in the East Village for some Thai food. We came away impressed. We had mussels steamed in a light curry sauce, some pring rolls, mu shu chicken (the best I have ever seen/tasted) and a grilled pork chop with mixed vegetables.

After dinner we met Micah at King’s Head for a quick beer before heading out on the L Train to Luna Lounge in Williamsburg to see Gabe’s band Monuments play. We hadn’t seen them play in a while and they sounded excellent. We also got to see Gabe’s dad who was in for the weekend. After the show, Karen, Micah and I hopped a cab back to the Slope and despite our desire to power through one more beer at Commonwealth, Karen and I went home and went to sleep.

Delicious Franco-esque Thai food

Some great Thai food at The Elephant.

Delicious spring rolls

We saw a plate of these pass by and had to order some despite the fact that we had just gotten our giant bowl of light curry steamed mussels.

Dear F Train, Get This Technology

Would it be so so hard to get these going on more lines?

Yeah, what you missed out on was the years long disruption of L train service as they retrofitted for the fancy new trains. Trust me, being stuck in Williamsburg all weekend was the sux. That said, I think the idea was that they’d work out the kinds whilst only inconveniencing dirty hipsters, and that it should now be easier to roll this technology out on other lines. The real value add is not even the timing signs, that’s just a happy bonus. The big win is that trains can run faster and closer together on the tracks, meaning less time between trains.
