Resolutions for 2007

Date January 2, 2007 by karen

Hello everyone and happy 2007 to you! I hope you had a great 2006. I know I did. However, I have been giving 2007 some thought and I have some resolutions and projects I plan to work on for the upcoming year.

Read two books each month

While I have heard of people reading a book a week for a year, I am not sure I could keep up with that schedule. Two books a month seemed a bit more attainable. If you have suggestions for great books, please send them my way!

Run five races in 2007

I plan on running the NYC marathon this year, and think a few races before hand would help me stay on track leading up to the marathon. Alex and I are thinking of running the Broad Street 10 miler in Philly on May 6th. Anyone want to join us?

Finish my portfolio site

I have owned www.superkb.com for three years now and all that one can find there is a list of my grad school classes and email address. I have started quite a few design variations of the site over the years, but have a hard time committing to the design to fully build it.

Learn….

-to sew. I got a sewing machine for Christmas this year from my brother and Chieko, so now I just need to learn how to use it. Perhaps I should start with the pants I have been wearing with a duct tape hem? Maybe another resolution is to be less ghetto?

-to code in XML and CSS better. It would just make dealing with work a lot more interesting.

-to speak French ( I would add “better” given that I took years of French in H.S. but all I can say is “Do you want the butter?” or “Where is my mother?” so I suppose that doesn’t count as “knowing” French). Alex aide!?

- the settings of the digital SLR better. Aperture, Schmaperture has always been my attitude and I think it is time I sit down and get to to know the settings.

I’ll keep you posted on my progress and will be sure to post some book reviews here. Enjoy your 2007!

[...] It was a smart decision to embark on my learn to sew reoslution with Lindsey because I don’t think I would figured the machine out on my own. Lin walked me through prepping the machine and offered some great debugging tips. I realized twenty minutes into our lesson, when we were still setting up the machine and not yet sewing, that when I decide I want to learn something I have no interest in how we get there, just the end result. It’s similar to how I handled grad school, “What do you mean I have to take Computanional Media? I just want to network water. Can’t we just start with that?!” [...]

[...] Team Kane Street and friends just signed up for the Need for Speed relay race up at Bear Mountain in June. It is a 50 mile race with 9 legs. We were supposed to run a 10 mile race in Philly in May, but thanks to some last minute family obligations, we had to cancel our running plans. Luckily, the Need for Speed race invitation arrived in the wake of our rescheduliung and we now have something new to train for this Spring. Joining us will be Agatha, Tom and Chieko, as well as some of Agatha and Tom’s other friends. This works out well because so far I have completed none of the 5 races I said I would do in 2007… [...]
