It’s a bad sign when you can’t make grilled cheese

After a trip to the Brooklyn Museum today to see the Ron Mueck and Annie Leibovitz exhibits, Alex and I decided to try the new Brooklyn Burger Bar that has taken the place of Bar Minnow on the corner of 7th avenue and 9th street in Park Slope. I was skeptical of Brooklyn Burger Bar for a number of reasons:
1) they screwed up their sign so that it read “Oooklyn Burger Bar B” when they first moved into the neighborhood;
2) they handed out menus that were barely legible on their grand opening day—photocopied with white type on a black background (which I had to walk into the restaurant to get);
3) they spelled pickle on their menu as “pickel.” Seriously?
In anycase, we decided to give it a chance because we hoped they just needed to work out the kinks in their first week of business. After all, they did get a new sign…
Alex ordered a turkey burger and salad with vinegarette and I ordered a grilled cheese and fries. Our seltzers showed up with stirs, not straws, when our food arrived, the vinegarette was something else, the cheese in the grilled cheese was still unmelted, sliced cheese, and the sandwich offered an ungrilled side of white bread to boot. When the waiter came by to see if we were done, and we said yes, he said he would send someone by to clean up the table— apparently he was too good for clearing our plates. The lady next to us had similar issues too. Our tables combined gave Brooklyn Burger Bar a C-.
I think this is terrible. They serve burgers! How hard can this be? Serve a delicious burger (cooked), some tasty fries, and offer decent service and we’ll come back. Offer up a large screeen tv, a few starters and beers and we’ll see you every Sunday. Brooklyn Burger Bar, you have got to shape up. I am ashmaed for you—I couldn’t even look the waiter in the eye today when we left. Chowhound reviewers seem to have varying thoughts.

[...] On another note, I thought this car provided an interesting juxtaposition to the carelessness Brooklyn Burger Bar has shown in their core competency - making food (you might remember that they can’t even make a proper grilled cheese sandwich). [...]
