Manlio Rules indeed (the same way Mao did)

Date October 25, 2006 by alex

A few days ago, over on his blog, Manlio threw up a post about NBC’s Friday Night Lights - specifically criticizing how having Coach Taylor wake up his players at midnight and take them out to run sprints up a hill was more hazing than it was coaching (episode summary here). After a few days of back and forth in the comments, between Manlio, Karen, Neill and myself, I added a post that read “Manlio, there’s no room for manginas in football.” I’m not terribly proud of the wording but I think it was definitely germaine to our discussion. This was coaching and the players need to suck it up. He’s not hurting them, he’s building character!

After hitting Submit on my comment I was somewhat perplexed to see my comment not appear on the site. “Hmm…”, I thought, “Might Manlio be moderating posts FROM HIS FRIENDS? No way! He would never do that. He’s way too cool of a dude for that sort of behavior.” Literally 10 seconds later I get this IM from our favorite dictator…

Manlio is a fascist

Let this serve as notice to all you. The times they are a changin’…

Update: I want to clarify that by using the word “mangina” I do not mean to imply that women would not support Coach Taylor in his coaching endeavors. There are many women, including Karen, who support him and his late night, hill-sprinting ways - man-ginas or any sort of ‘ginas notwithstanding.

wow, now that the reality of this situation is unfolding, i think it would behoove manlio to post the comment, to appear LESS like a mangina lover. you shouldn’t feel threatened, man…

and who needs an explanation of mangina? i’m not honestly concerned w/ the ramificaitons - mangina, insulting or not, is a simply a wonderful and entertaining word. i for one, support it’s use.
