Union Hall Opening Night
July 9, 2006 by alex
This brand new bar from our friends who brought us Floyd (official website here) is really top notch. Luckily Karen and I just moved to Park Slope - so we’re close enough to enjoy it. After we wrapped up dinner at Los Pollitos II last night we got a Dodgeball check-in from Janelle and Youngna at Union Hall. It turns out last night was their “soft opening” (which sounds filthy, btw) and we just happened to be a few blocks away so we decided to swing by for a drink (or 3).
The space they’ve managed to secure is really amazing. It has a little bit of everything. Some quick thoughts: really interesting looking menu (yup, they have real food), 2 bocce courts makes for a Thunderdome-style bocce stadium feel, they have some outdoor space that may need a better lighting solution (wicked dark), there may be no dogs allowed due to the serving of food (sorry, Sash!), some of the coolest bathrooms I ever done laid eyes on (unisex), predictable bocce courts (no back wall rollbacks here), consistantly great decor throughout (old library feel - they kept the Floyd vibe going), super high ceilings which make the space feel wonderfully open, the jukebox feels Floyd-familiar (in a great way). Karen and I managed to get in a couple of games of bocce on the pristine courts and emerged 2-0 in our Union Hall debut (Park Slope recognize!). All in all, an A+ effort for the guys. I look forward to drinking many Yuenglings down on Union and 5th.
