Yanks /Sox gets rained out… one game left.
June 8, 2006 by alex
The weather in NY has been really crappy recently and yesterday’s Yanks/Sox contest fell victim to it so this 4 game series has now been shortened to a 3 game series with last night’s scheduled starters (Schilling and Wright) scheduled to go tonight. That means we’re looking at a 5 game series in Fenway in late August and a 4 game series at the Stadium in late September - anyone else think the division will be decided then. Karen and I will be in a foreign land on our honeymoon during the last series between these 2 teams so I will miss the drama. That makes tonight the last possible game at Yankee Stadium between these two teams that I can see live or even in New York… so…
The good news is that Karen and I snagged tickets to this game back in December but Karen has been inder the weather (feel better!) so Gabe and I will be heading up to the Stadium around 5:30. The really good news is that no matter what transpires, the Sox will be leaving town in second place - either .5 games back or 2.5 games back (sweet).
As an aside, this is Gabe’s first Yanks/Sox game since the incident that left him with a shiner. Even better, we get to sit in the bleachers this time which bodes well for Gabe though it can be deceptive in the same way cities like Boston are with their 1am bar close time. Rather than curb the drunkeness in the city, the rule results in people getting totally wasted by like 7pm because the moment they leave work they are racing against the clock. The same rule applies here - though there may be no alcohol being served in the actual bleachers, you can bet your $7 dollar hot dog, there’ll be drunk people there and there’s something about the bleacher section that feels cut off from everything else, like an lawless island where drunken people can fight each other and not get caught cause the ushers are too scared to work that section.
Anyway, let’s hope the weather holds up and no knuckle sandwiches are served.

if you’re wondering what i’d be in for:

after my “experience” two seasons ago, i unfortunately will never draw attention to myself as a sox fan in yankee land again. it really is just unfun. before 2004 it rarely crossed the line, you take an earful and you could give an earful back. now it’s just straighT moron chaos. of course it’s not just yankee stadium, morons are morons regardless of whether the name on their jersey reads jeter or varitek. so in the effort not to engage in fisticuffs, i’ll be capless and (relatively) quiet this evening. GO SOX!
