Um… Check out the flaccidest Yankee lineup…

So the Yankees got pounced on early in the last game against the Orioles over the weekend. It’s not news that we’re banged up but Jeter got hit with a tough Rodrigo Lopez pitch in the middle of a meaningless game. I HATE when stupid injuries happen when the game is already out of reach.

Soon after the folks at YES put up the new defensive alignment and I think it might very well be the weakest Yankee lineup I’ve seen in a looooong time. I mean, Andy Phillips at 3rd and Jorge Posada at 1st?!? For good measure we’ll throw Scott Erickson out there. Maybe put All-Star Terrence Long in Center.

Anyway, the hope is that Jeter just has a bruise but I don’t imagine we’ll see him in the first game of our upcoming 4 game series at home against… the Boston Red Sox. (gulp)

Hey - we can’t forget that we still won this series despite our beleaguered lineup and have hopefully emerged without a major injury - though Mo, Jeter, Arod and Giambi all missed time this weekend due to injuries.

Hopefully the young guys can keep it going. Tune in tomorrow for a quick preview of the next installment (and last one till mid-August) of Yanks vs. Sox. [ see it on Flickr ]
