The Onion A.V. blog has a perfect run down of what makes MTV’s My Super Sweet 16 such a maddening and excellent show.
Reality television specializes in exploiting the worst aspects of American society, and My Super Sweet 16 has taken it to a new high/low. It really is something to behold, and it feels like an expression of MTV’s contempt for its viewers: “Here you go, you little monsters. Don’t you wish you were these privileged brats?”
Another Onioner counters with The Real World as their nomination for Most Offensive TV Show. Make sure to check out the video clip. It’s special. Either way, MTV seems to have a stranglehold on the offensive market.
