What happened to Nosh and where is my caterer?
April 27, 2006 by karen
Up until this winter, Blue Star on Court Street was my favorite neighborhood restaurant. Alex and I loved it so much we decided to hire the chef, Marc, to cater our wedding. We were psyched! Then one winter afternoon we cruised up to Court Street and found a new sign on what was once called Blue Star announcing a new seafood restaurant: South. How could this be? We just ate there 5 days ago and Marc didn’t say anything. We momentarily freaked, but then realized we could scurry over to Nosh (Marc’s other restaurant on Atlantic) to hear what the deal was and to see if we needed a new caterer. When we arrived at Nosh, Marc didn’t elaborate much about the closing of Blue Star, but assured us that he would still caterer the wedding and it would be delicious. We were sad about Blue Star, but happy that Marc’s expertise would still be around in the neighborhood at delicious Nosh. I walked out with a turkey reuben in hand that day.
A few weeks go by and I head over to Nosh for lunch but find that it’s closed. At the time I thought it was a random occurrence. I know they are closed on Tuesdays, so maybe they all got confused and forgot to show up on Saturday? But I have passed Nosh about 10 times now in the past month since that day and it is still closed. The neon Nosh sign still glows brightly in the window and loaves of bread still sit untouched on the counter, but it has not been open in nearly a month. It looks like they just closed one night and decided they were done. Can anyone tell me what’s going on here? Seriously, where is my caterer, and more importantly where am I supposed to eat now?
To make things more interesting, on my way to Angry Wade’s last night, I passed South, and saw all the lights were down (strange for a Wednesday night) before I noticed a “For Sale” sign on the door. Now enough is enough. Can I get some information? Anyone? All I can find online are other people talking smack on Chowhounds about Marc and his Grateful Dead shirts.
